Day 20 of the 24 Day Prophecy Study
Notes compiled by Steve McAtee and Marty Zide
Within the eternal state, there is a heavenly city called the new Jerusalem. Its description can be found in Revelation 21:9-22:5.
Description of the New Jerusalem:
It’s glory - Rev. 21:11 It’s walls - Rev. 21:12-13 It’s foundations - Rev. 21:14 It’s measurements - Rev. 21:15-17 It’s materials - what it’s made with - Rev. 21:18-21 Things not there - Rev. 21:22-24 How one enters it - Rev. 21:25-27 The river and tree of life - Rev. 22:1-2 No more curse, and we will serve Him - Rev. 22::3-4 No night, nor is light needed, God will be the light - Rev. 22:5
THE INHABITANTS OF THE NEW JERUSALEM
God In All His Splendor And Glory Will Be There. The greatest thing about heaven will be the fact that God Himself will be there. We will dwell together with Him for all eternity with unbroken fellowship.
Rev. 21:3 - And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.
No One Unsaved Will Be There
Contrary to what liberal theology has always taught, not everyone will go to heaven. Only believers in the Lord Jesus, who repented of their sins will be there.
Rev. 21:8 - But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
The sins listed here are not exhaustive, but only a sample as is true in many of the lists that are given in Scripture. They are also habitually characteristic in the lives of those who are unsaved. Their sins define who they are.
Angels Will Be There.
Angels have always played a very important role in God’s program. We learn that angels will be stationed around the New Jerusalem. Rev. 21:12 - It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels...
Heb. 12:22 - But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels.
Saved Israel Will Be There
The New Jerusalem has 12 gates. The names of each of the 12 tribes of Israel are on the 12 gates which are made of pearl. For all eternity, Israel will be remembered as God’s chosen people.
Rev. 21:12 - It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.
Rev. 21:21 - And the twelve gates were twelve pearls...
This is the city that Abraham looked for with great anticipation.
Heb. 11:10,16 - For he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one...
All Other Saints Will Be There
All the saints of all ages will be present in the New Jerusalem. Old Testament, Church, Tribulational, and Millennial saints will enjoy this for all eternity.
